In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Idyllic.”
I wrap my hands around a hot cup of coffee for warmth and wander outdoors. The morning temperature is cool, not more than sixty. I have on socks and a sweatshirt. Our back yard views the golf course. The sounds are peaceful, tranquil or some prefer to say, serene. The trees rarely move. The manicured greens create a sameness that is boring when there is nothing to do. The community not gated nor age restricted, is idyllic.
Then frenzy, a frantic fluttering of leathers and squawking, starts. High above hawks swoop down on a crow’s nest eager for breakfast. Squeals and squalls erupt, like a distress signal, and numerous crows appear as words do in a television screen warning. Alert; heir young will not be eaten.
Over the next hour, crows perched in trees, change watch as the hawks linger eyed for a weakness. The crows have a larger extended family. I wonder if there is a situation room in which their strategy was discussed then conclude it was idyllic and natural instinct.

Thanks for your encouragement. I am seriously struggling to write. I also have a blog at claudiajustsaying.com It’s with wordpress. In January I joined a critique group hoping to write a novel and it’s not working for me. Now my plan is to write every day and the daily prompt will help.
I’ve found that the writing community here on WordPress is incredibly helpful with regards to encouragement and motivation in your writing. I just finished a blog challenge (the A-Z blogging challenge) in which you pick a theme, and in the month of April you write each day but Sunday, working through the alphabet as that letter relates to your theme. I chose a writing theme, so A was Audience, B was Blogging, etc., etc.
It was ultimately a type of writing prompt challenge, and it helped me SO much in forcing me to write every day on a selected topic. It is hard to get in a regular routine!!! Now that the challenge is over, I’m back to focusing on random poetry/short fiction and various topics, but find that I’m really missing prompts and daily challenges to keep me in the habit of daily, regular writing. It is like anything, a sport, a craft, you have to work at it and practice to get better, and I certainly need that practice!
I really like this “Daily Post” challenge. I’m poking around to find one that suits me best, but this one is towards the top of my list!! 🙂

Thanks for your response. Yes writing daily is the key. The daily challenge is good, but I’m a slow writer. I started writing in retirement, never wrote before. In January I shifted my focus to writing a novel and joined a critique group but fell behind and because we moved didn’t post, so I’m very rusty. I did an Alphabet series about two years ago and it was very motivating. I’m exploring themes for my blog claudiajustsaying to get me going again. But I’m focused on writing ever day. I use to get out of bed with a poem in my head and that stopped happening. But I’m hopeful the words will return. Thanks and Stay in touch, Claudia
